Man charged over tyre fire

Christchur­ch: A man charged with arson after a massive fire at a North Canterbury stockpile of tens of thousands of tyres has been granted interim name suppressio­n.

Emergency services were called to the blaze outside Amberley about 3.10pm on Friday.

The man in his 60s was due to appear in the Christchur­ch District Court yesterday.

However, he was given a registrar’s remand and granted interim name suppressio­n.

He will be back in court on February 23. — The New Zealand Herald
