Quake remembered
Napier The 90th anniversary of New Zealand’s deadliest natural disaster was marked with commemorations in both Napier and Hastings yesterday.
The Hawke’s Bay earthquake on February 3, 1931, killed 256 people, turning Napier and Hastings to rubble.
Fire broke out in Napier’s business district shortly after the earthquake, killing people who were still trapped. — RNZ
