British Open going ahead

-

Golf: The British Open will go ahead in July with or without spectators.

‘‘We will play the Open this year,’’ Martin Slumbers, the chief executive officer of R&A, said yesterday.

Slumbers said it would be up to the Government and public health agencies to decide whether spectators would be allowed on site at Royal St George’s in Sandwich, England, on July 1518.

The British Open was cancelled in 2020 because of the Covid19 pandemic. The

PGA Championship, US Open and Masters all were delayed but played without fans. — Reuters
