Bangladesh tour dates put back a week

- STAFF REPORTER

THE dates for the Bangladesh men's tour of New Zealand next month have been moved back a week, and Queenstown will benefit.

New Zealand Cricket says logistical challenges in the Covid19 environment have forced the change.

The Bangladesh team will now have a training camp and play a warmup match in Queenstown before its New Zealand tour next month.

The team’s visit to Queenstown comes on the heels of stays by the Pakistan and West Indies men’s teams, while the England women’s team will be following a similar path later this month.

Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim

Boult said he was “rapt” with the news.

“I’m delighted to hear of yet another cricket team coming to spend time in our district,” Boult said.

“I’m grateful for the continued support we’ve received from New Zealand Cricket. Given the success of all the visits so far, I’m hoping the international exposure will lead to future first class games in Queenstown.’’

The games will be played at the same venues as first planned.

The tour now coincides with the White Ferns series against Australia, and allowing T20 doubleheaders in Hamilton, Napier and Auckland.

Fans who have bought tickets for the affected games have been notified.

Bangladesh is now scheduled to play the Black Caps at the University of Otago Oval on March 20, in a one day international.
