Giant animals a carnival attraction

-

One of the big sideshow attractions on the showgrounds will be Hercules, said to be one of the biggest horses ever known. This monster is almost 20 hands high. Appearing with him is Wee Dot, the smallest baby pony in New Zealand. It may be mentioned that both these animals were bred in New Zealand, and this in itself should prove all the more interesting. One of the attractions of Carnival Week is the giant ox now being shown in Barton and Trengrove’s rightofway in the Octagon. This bullock came into prominence last August, when it brought the phenomenal price of £204 at the Addington stock sales, which price constitutes a record. This bullock’s dimensions are: height 6 feet 21⁄2 inches; girth 10ft 51⁄2in, length 10ft, and he has turned the scale at 3500lb. With him is shown a fat sheep that is said to have turned the scale at 332lb. Both animals are to be taken across to the Sydney Royal Show next month.
