Stingers take revenge

- FRANCES PARKER

THE Valley Stingers evened the ledger over the Kai Kings in the second match of their Waitangi Weekend doubleheader at Tuapeka Mouth, yesterday.

The Kings elected to bat and made 177 all out in the 35th over.

Bevan McCall was his side’s top bowler with three for 23 off four overs.

In reply, the Kings could not have started better, with Jason Young removing Bevan McCall on the first ball of the innings. But veteran Stingers Morgan Culbertson and Dave McCall put together a much needed 43run partnership before McCall was dismissed. Culbertson was dismissed with the game poised at 84 for four. Marc Phillips joined captain Lachie Johnston at the crease for a matchwinning 84run partnership.

This win brings Valley one point shy of Kai and Waihola in second place.

Valley Stingers 178/5 (Lachie Johnston 64*, Marc Phillips 49; Jason Young 329) beat Kai Kings 177 (William Casey 38, Orry Young 29; Bevan McCall 323)
