Steampunk playground stopover

After camping in Kurow for the long weekend, brothers Jackson (3, left) and Ethan (5) Carroll just had to stop at Oamaru’s Steampunk playground on their way home to Dunedin.

Usually prone to car sickness, the boys gave the playground’s running wheel a whirl.

It was not long before they ran off to join the couple of dozen other children also making the most of the warm weather.

Jackson was still in preschool and had no reservations when it came to meeting new people.

Ethan was a bit shy.

But together, they were a force to be reckoned with.

Their mother, Amanda Carroll, said when the boys were side by side, they bounced off one another.

‘‘People often think they are twins,’’ Mrs Carroll said.

To keep car sickness at bay, the family would drive straight back to Dunedin without stopping for ice cream.
