Rail extension work welcomed

-

The note of keen satisfaction expressed at the public meeting at Roxburgh following the announcement by the Minister of Public Works, Mr Coates, that an immediate start would be made with the Millers Flat extension, will be widely reechoed. For many years the settlers have struggled against great odds and suffered considerable losses through the lack of suitable transport facilities for their goods. Every extension of the railway has afforded a partial relief, but many settlers have grown grey while waiting for the arrival of the iron horse. We believe the Minister will have no cause to regret his decision. The district is

fertile and promises increased production as soon as railway communication is fully established. As a practical man the Minister was doubtless impressed by its potentialities, and it is satisfactory to know that he has accurately estimated the prospects of Central Otago.
