England dominates India

Cricket: England crushed India by 227 runs in the opening test at Chennai's MA Chidambara­m Stadium yesterday to go 10 up in the fourmatch series.

The host, set a daunting 420run victory target, was bowled out for 192 in the second session of the final day, captain Virat Kohli top scoring with 72.

India struggled against James Anderson's (three for 17) reverseswi­ng, while leftarm spinner Jack Leach (four for 76) ran through the lower order.

Chennai also hosts the second test, which starts on Saturday.

Seamer Hasan Ali took a careerbest 10 wickets in the match as Pakistan blitzed South Africa with the new ball yesterday to complete a 95run victory in the second and final test in Rawalpindi and claim the series 20.

Chasing a victory target of 370, South Africa’s middle order was decimated by Hasan (five for 60) and Shaheen Afridi (four for 51) and the visitor was dismissed for 274. — Reuters
