Overreaction to movie influence
The resolution which was adopted by the Christchurch Presbytery this week in support of the determination of the Minister of Internal Affairs to impose a stricter censorship of picture films than has obtained in the past, was in one respect not happily framed. We refer to the sentence in it which commits the Presbytery to the declaration that “moving pictures are a necessary evil”. It is difficult to believe that the majority of the members of the Presbytery are really of the opinion that moving pictures are necessarily an evil at all. If they are, it is most certain that they are completely out of touch with public opinion on this subject.
