Cycleway plan on track
Christchurch: Plans for a controversial, costly Christchurch cycleway will continue — despite an attempt to halt the process yesterday.
Hundreds of residents and several business owners are frustrated and upset they were not involved before design work was done for the
$19 million project.
The Christchurch City Council has now promised to involve the community as it tries to improve the heavily criticised plans.
Dubbed ‘‘Wheels to Wings’’, the cycleway is planned for the main thoroughfare of Harewood Rd — linking Christchurch city to the airport and surrounding areas. It would cut two traffic lanes and reduce parking, upsetting residents and businesses in Bishopdale and Papanui. — RNZ
