Gun amnesty ends
Apia: Almost 200 illegal guns have been handed in by people in Samoa in a gun amnesty which ended on Wednesday.
A total of 198 weapons were collected. The firearms comprised rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Ammunition items totalling 686 for the various firearms were also handed to the police.
Police Commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil said the operation had been successful.
For each firearm handed into police, the owner was given a food voucher, Fuiavailili said. — RNZ
