Dinner raises funds for medical research

Prof Michael Baker, a public health physician and professor in the department of public health at the University of Otago’s Wellington campus, addresses a black tie dinner event at the Dunedin Town Hall last night.

The annual dinner is a main fundraisin­g event for the Otago Medical Research Foundation.

Founded in 1967, the foundation funds small innovative medical research projects and summer scholarshi­ps at Otago.

The evening featured musical entertainm­ent, including the St Kilda Brass Band, and an auction as well as Prof Baker’s address.

The foundation’s director of developmen­t, Susan Sims, said the dinner was traditiona­lly ‘‘very successful’’, having previously raised $100,000 for medical research.
