Matariki

I AM astounded that yet again we are being subjected to a ‘‘public holiday’’ that bears absolutely no relevance to by far the majority of New Zealanders. It fits at about the same level of importance as Groundhog Day and Halloween.

As Matariki is proposed as a floating day, it will cause endless consternation to employers who will be required to interpret the nebulous regulations regarding days off, days in lieu, and correct rates of payment.
