Home improvements options attract many
A RECENT upsurge in enthusiasm for home improvements and redecorating was reflected at the latest Otago House and Home Show, which ended yesterday.
Dunedin resident Emma Ramsay said she had planned to upgrade her kitchen last year but that had been deferred because of disruptions caused by the Covid19 pandemic.
Mrs Ramsay visited the Edgar Centre show with her daughter, Milly, on Saturday and said she aimed to have the work done this year.
The show had clearly helped with her plans, including enabling her to walk on new carpet.
‘‘It’s been really good — you get lots of information.
‘‘There’s lots of different things to learn,’’she said.
Some friends were also undertaking home improvements, and many other showgoers also seemed keen to do the same, she said.
David Grieve, managing director of Excel Exhibitions, which runs the threeday show, said 2300 people had attended on the show’s first two days, including about 1800 on Saturday.
Strong interest from the public continued yesterday, including a further 1800 by about noon yesterday.
Attendance could be down somewhat on the 6400 who had attended last year, but there had clearly been increased interest in home improvements since the start of last year’s Covid19 lockdown, he said.
About 50 booths, promoting a wide range of products and services, including home heating systems, carpets and novel types of cleaning products, were provided this year, down from 80 last year.
