Hattrick for Scammell

Motorcycling: Mosgiel drag racer Cole Scammell had to wait a while but it was worth it.

Due to the rain and wind at the Burt Munro Challenge on Thursday night, the drag racing event was cancelled in Invercargill. But there was time on Friday night to run the event at Terotonga raceway.

Scammell (23) ended up winning his class and also had the four fastest times of the night. The Mosgiel rider recorded a flat time of 9sec, reaching 258kmh, the fastest his bike, a 2007 Suzuki Hayabusa, fitted with a turbo system, had ever gone.

The win completed a hattrick of titles for Scammell in the event.
