Johnson chasing No 1000
Racing: Cambridge jockey Danielle Johnson has a giltedged opportunity to become the 34th jockey to ride 1000 winners in New Zealand with a book of nine rides at Te Aroha today.
Johnson (29) moved to 999 wins when she guided Les Crayeres to success at Te Rapa on Saturday, bringing up a double after Amarelinha’s win earlier in the day.
‘‘What people are saying to me makes me realise what a big achievement it is,’’ Johnson said. ‘‘Even just saying 1000 wins — wow, that’s a lot of winners. It’s a pretty big deal the more I think about it.’’ — NZ Racing Desk
