Butchers Dam algae tested

POTENTIALLY toxic algae has been found at Butchers Dam.

An Otago Regional Council spokeswoman said a sample had been taken from the dam for testing.

Warning signs are in place.

Exposure to toxic algae can cause skin rashes, nausea, stomach cramps and tingling and numbness around the mouth and fingertips.

People and dogs should avoid contact with the water.
