Giles breaks record

Athletics: Elliot Giles ran the secondfastest indoor 800m of all time in Poland yesterday to break Sebastian Coe’s longstanding British record.

Giles’ time of 1min 43.63sec took well over a second off Coe’s national record of 1min 44.91sec, which the double Olympic 1500m champion set in 1983.

Giles’ time is second only to Denmark’s Wilson Kipketer, who set the world record of 1min 42.67sec at the 1997 world indoor championships.
