Lush elected to council

Invercargi­ll: The final results of the Invercargi­ll City Council byelection were released yesterday.

The voter return was 36.58%, or 14,700 out of the 40,203 eligible voters.

Broadcaste­r Marcus Lush, of Bluff, was elected with 7371 votes.

Wayne Harpur had the secondmost votes with 1534, and Simon Edwards the thirdmost with 1134.

Nine candidates had vied for the vacant spot left by former deputy mayor Toni Biddle, who resigned from the council in October last year.
