Women denied membership

London: Cambridge University, by reason of a vote taken two days ago has rejected, for a time at least, the entry of women into full membership of the university. From all parts of the country members of the university arrived to record their votes at the senate house. When the result was declared, it was seen that 712 had voted for the proposal and 904 against, thus definitely rejecting women’s aspirations. Among those who favoured the admission of women was Ernest Rutherford, who, with another science professor, was one of the many correspondents who contributed his views to the public press.
