Union, Waitaki Boys’ record big victories

UNION, Waitaki Boys’ High School and St Kevin’s College all moved up the Borton Cup ladder in North Otago after games on Saturday.

Union handed out a hiding to Albion on the outer ground at Whitestone Contractin­g Stadium by 164 runs.

Waitaki Boys’ enforced a 130run drubbing of its own to Valley, while St Kevin’s College defeated Oamaru by three wickets in a lowscoring shootout.

Batting first, Union made 217, with Craig Campbell (46), Jeremiah Shields (27) and Garry Singh (24) getting among the runs.

Hayden Creedy (two for 25) and Ricky Whyte (two for 37) were the best of the Albion bowlers.

In reply Albion collapsed to be all out for 53, with Blake James returning the excellent figures of seven for 22 for Union.

Batting first, Waitaki Boys’ High School set Valley a tough target, making 261 for six in its 50 overs.

Matt Stewart (48), Quinn Wardle (29), Andrew Wilson (47) and Ben Donkers (44) led the way, while Taine Stirling, Sean Webber and Josh Phipps took a wicket each.

Valley struggled through to 131; Shannon Dunnett (44) and Cameron Grubb (33) made runs while Lochie Mavor took three for 33 as Valley slumped to a hefty defeat.

In a lowscoring game, St Kevin’s College beat Oamaru by three wickets.

Batting first, Oamaru collapsed to be all out for 88 in 27.3 overs.

Lachlan Brookes took five for 26 for St Kevin’s while Jacob Fowler and Jack Cameron took two wickets each.

St Kevin’s College lost seven wickets before it passed the target with three wickets in hand.

Jesse Valpy led the way with 32 while bowling for Oamaru Stephan Grobler took three for 10, Harvinder Sandhu two for 41 and Robbie Breen one for seven.
