Medical School funding sought
The financial requirements of the University Council necessitated by the maintenance of the Otago Medical School, which has become a national institution of first class importance, were very fully and impressively explained to the Minister of Education (Hon C.J. Parr) by a deputation yesterday. The growth of the school in recent years has been so remarkable that the University Council is actually at its wits’ end to provide accommodation for the students. The Minister seems half inclined to think that the number of students who are being prepared for a medical course is greater than the country is in a position to absorb. There is certainly no indication at the present time that there are more medical practitioners in New Zealand than are required to meet the demand for their services. The present position is that the Medical
