Alcohol involved in crashes

A MAN whose car crashed and rolled into a ditch recorded a breathalco­hol level more than three times the legal limit.

He was one of two 20yearold men processed for drinkdrivi­ng in Dunedin yesterday morning.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said police were called to State Highway 1, near Leith Valley, at 1.38am yesterday to reports of a car crashing and rolling into a ditch on the opposite side of the road.

The driver recorded a breathalco­hol level of 828mcg.

Two people were treated at the scene by St John.

At 3.30am, another man repeatedly crashed his Ford Focus into the centre concrete barrier on SH1, near Green Island, causing significan­t damage to the car.

He recorded a breathalco­hol level of 330mcg and was fined, Snr Sgt Dinnissen said.

He was also found to be an unaccompan­ied learner driver.
