Funds raised for tribute to pianist
A FUNDRAISING campaign has been launched for a tribute to a Dunedin musician who died last week.
Composer, pianist and singer Nick Knox died suddenly last Thursday, prompting an outpouring of tributes from Dunedin’s music community.
Mr Knox was the subject of 2014 minidocumentary The Characteristics of CMinor, by Dunedin filmmakers J. Ollie Lucks and Max Bellamy.
Dunedin musician Nadia Reid set up a Givealittle page, which by yesterday afternoon had raised more than $1600.
She described Mr Knox as an incredible piano player who should have been world famous.
‘‘I was in awe of his dedicated practice to music — he’d always be in his studio, he just lived and loved and breathed his art.’’
‘‘He was just such an icon of Dunedin, especially of Moray Pl.’’
Uses for the money include a possible memorial service, or a plaque or mural somewhere in the city centre.
