Assaulted man dies

Dannevirke: A man assaulted in Manawatu Prison two weeks ago has died.

Police said the man was assaulted on February 11 and died in hospital on Tuesday.

The police investigation has been upgraded to a homicide inquiry.

A 29yearold man had previously been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He is to appear in the Dannevirke District Court on April 13.
