Phoenix sink to bottom

Football: The Wellington Phoenix has dropped to the foot of the ALeague football table after losing 2nil to fellow struggler Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night.

The Victory scored from set pieces either side of halftime.

Again, Ufuk Talay’s side struggled in front of goal at both ends.

‘‘If there’s an award for a team that can get into the box and not score, we win that,’’ he said.

‘‘If there’s an award for allowing cheap goals from set pieces, I think we win that as well.’’

The Phoenix has just one win front eight games. Its next game is against Newcastle on Sunday.
