Oram hints of changes to team

- ADRIAN SECONI

WHITE Ferns bowling coach Jacob Oram has hinted at changes for the third oneday international against England in Dunedin tomorrow.

The home side suffered a sevenwicket loss to England at the University of Otago Oval yesterday.

The White Ferns slumped to 34 for five but rebounded slightly to reach 192.

England cruised to victory with more than 12 overs remaining and leads the three gameseries 20.

It was the White Fern’s 11th consecutive loss in the format, so pressure is starting to build.

‘‘It was a very tough day. And another one,

Oram said.

‘‘Against a good England side, you need more than 190 [odd] … so you are not going to win a lot of games unless you take early wickets, which we managed to.

‘‘But the quality of that English top order was just too good once again.

‘‘With the series gone I wouldn’t be surprised if there are changes for the third one,’’ Oram said.

But he was also adamant the team had the best available players ‘‘minus a few injuries’’.

‘‘All of these players have shown in the past that they are quality players. We know the likes of Sophie [Devine] and Katey Martin and Amy Satterth

unfortunately,’’ waite have had a long tenure in the White Ferns and have the record to show that and we just need them to stand up a little bit more.

‘‘If we eke out another 40, 50, 60 runs then we have something to defend.’’

While Brooke Halliday’s knock of 60 and a couple of early strikes with the ball was something to stick in positive side of the ledger, Oram said the side needed to build partnerships with the bat and maintain pressure with the ball for longer if it was going to be more competitive.

‘‘There are positives but when you get 190 [odd] and lose by seven wickets it is hard to magnify them to the point where you are walking away happy.’’
