A PERSON waited more than an hour for an ambulance after falling off their bike in Mosgiel yesterday.

Police were called to Gretna Pl at 2.55pm, where a person had fallen off their bike.

St John coastal Otago territory manager Doug Third said they received a 111 call at 2.12pm from a member of the public about the incident.

However, the ambulance was diverted to a potentially lifethreatening call, he said.

‘‘All other ambulances were committed and a second ambulance was assigned to the job for this patient at 3.10pm, when it became available.’’

That ambulance arrived on scene at 3.28pm and the patient was taken to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition, Mr Third said.

‘‘It is always St John Ambulance’s objective to respond as soon as possible, with lifethreatening calls given the highest priority.’’

Police carried out traffic control at the scene.
