Heritage Precinct Lodge Lane upgrade due to start on Monday

WORK on a much anticipated makeover for Lodge Lane in Clyde will begin on Monday.

It forms another piece of the work related to the Clyde Heritage Precinct upgrade, which began last month on opening up the walkway from Matau St to Miners Lane and extending Miners Lane to create a oneway through road.

The upgrade to Lodge Lane to create a shared public space is aimed at creating a central community hub at the ‘‘heart’’ of Clyde.

This was consulted on with the community through the Central Otago District Council’s last 10Year Plan in 2018.

As part of the Lodge Lane upgrade, car parking on the lane and the gravel section behind the lodge will be removed.

The road area and footpaths would be levelled and resurfaced, creating a flexible pedestrian and cyclefriendly space and it would make the area better suited to events and public gatherings.

Planting, lighting and street furniture would also be installed, including bike stands and an ebike charging station.

The lane would be closed to traffic until further notice with a detour via Naylor and Holloway Sts. Access to public toilets for pedestrians would still be available most of the time.

New toilets were planned for behind the Masonic Lodge about

September/October and toilets are in the plans for Clyde River Park next year.

Roading work at Lodge Lane (and a road closure) was expected to take three months.

Work was scheduled for winter to cause the least disruption to business and the community.
