Men’s team beginning to make its mark

THE North Otago men’s netball side is becoming the team to meet in North Otago netball as it handed out a 4624 defeat to Valley Koru on Saturday.

The men play a calm and controlled approach through court.

The side took the court with the aim of putting four consistent quarters together and showed it is gelling.

The men’s defence was outstanding. Michael Misiloi and Tim Craig connected well, disrupting Valley shooters, while

Andy Sakalia was solid in the circle.

Annie Pledger, at goal defence for Valley Koru, worked hard and managed some tips.

Taieri Grant was calm under pressure in the shooting circle and worked well to create space in the circle.

Waitaki Girls Lightning Strike found its groove, players showing trust in each other on the court.

In the second half unforced errors crept in, allowing Kurow back into the game and it took the opportunities to run out a winner by two goals.

The best for Lightning Strike was the midcourt duo of Milly Mathews and shooter Emma Fox.

Kurow was happy with the narrow win.

Belinda Norrie had a strong game at centre and she combined well with Bella Martin at wing attack to feed the shooters.

Maheno Green had a slow start before improving in the third quarter. Sarah Lindsay opened up the circle while Ella Brown, at wing defence, restricted attacks on the circle edge and Phillipa Masoe at goal keep picked up loose shots.

Kate Lawrence was a standout on attack, feeding her shooters superbly, while fine shooting came from goal shooter Jenna Wylie.

Waitaki Wildfire made a better start to the game than Athletic but fine defence kept Athletic in sight.

Fullcourt pressure from Wildfire wore Athletic down.

It started well but battled into the last quarter when errors gave Wildfire the opportunity to pull way.

Moana Bufton got a lot of ball in the circle and defended well, as Wildfire won 3427.
