Waikouaiti pub liquidation bid
THE tax department has filed an application to liquidate a Waikouaiti pub.
Yesterday, a public notice was issued saying that an application for putting Golden Fleece 2018 Ltd into liquidation had been filed in the High Court at Dunedin.
The Golden Fleece Hotel and Motel operates both as a pub and accommodation service on the main street of Waikouaiti.
According to the companies office website yesterday morning, the business’ annual tax return was overdue.
It said that the Registrar of Companies had initiated action to remove the company from the register.
The business is owned by Rodney Bowler, Rowena Burgess and Samuel Chin, who each own a third.
The trio are also the company’s directors.
Mr Bowler and Ms Burgess coown other businesses in Central Otago including the Luggate Hotel and R and R Investments Ltd.
Mr Bowler also has a stake in Aspiring Engineers Ltd, a
Wanaka company.
Police previously raised concerns about Mr Bowler’s suitability to hold a duty manager’s certificate at the Luggate Hotel.
Police opposed his application because of seven convictions and his failure to disclose them.
Mr Chin formerly owned Dunedin’s Sammy’s nightclub.
The shareholders did not respond to requests for comment yesterday, nor did IRD’s counsel, David Tasker.
The application will be heard in the High Court later this month.
