Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust

-

SUICIDE is one of the leading causes of death in New Zealand, regardless of gender or ethnicity, according to the Ministry of Health.

Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust, formed in

2014, is holding its eighth annual World Suicide Prevention Day.

Due to COVID, the event will be held online in the format of a Video Series released throughout the week of September 6, and will feature excellent speakers and performers. These will be posted on the Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust Facebook page. Feel free to go ahead and watch and share these videos with your whanau.

We have World Suicide Prevention Day to acknowledge those who have passed, those who are struggling, and those who have been bereaved. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and end the stigma surrounding suicide. The stories and experiences shared in the event lets others know that they are not alone in their struggles and that there is hope. The theme set by the International Association for Suicide Prevention is ‘Creating Hope Through Action’.

Life Matters is having a youthfocused approach, as our nation’s youth suicide rates are one of the highest in the developed world. Our youth, aged 15 to 25, have higher suicide rates than any other life stage age groups.

The event is a reminder that every day should be suicide prevention day, not just September 10.

Tune into the Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust Facebook page to stay up to date and watch the video series.
