New Business South role for Waitaki
BUSINESS South has created a new role in Waitaki to ‘‘support and elevate’’ business across the district.
The newly merged entity of the Otago Chamber of Commerce and the Otago Southland Employers Association is advertising for someone to fill a new parttime ‘‘business navigator’’ role in Oamaru.
Chief executive Mike Collins said the establishment of the permanent position reflected Business South’s ‘‘ongoing commitment’’ to communities in Waitaki.
Mr Collins said at present there were just over 100 Business South mem bers in Waitaki, but no dedicated specialist support or resources for them in the district.
The new business navigator would be tasked with building networks and relationships with Business South members, local government, partner organisations and community groups, seeking commercial opportunities, and ensuring businesses had access to the tools and support they needed.
‘‘The person in this role will assist Waitaki organisations to access Business South services and support, ensure they are benefiting from all the advantages that come from being part of the Business New Zealand network, and create strong Waitaki business and community partnerships,’’ he said.
It was an ‘‘exciting time of innovation and growth’’ for Business South, following the merger.
‘‘One of the things I wanted to do was make sure we have some local representation,’’ Mr Collins said.
‘‘Having someone physically [in Waitaki], with their finger on the pulse and building those relationships . . . it’ll make a big difference.’’
