Moana Pool should be welcoming back its regular customers

-

IS the Dunedin City Council a business? I hope many would answer ‘‘Yes’’! As a business, Moana Pool should be welcoming back its regular customers and become a hive of activity with 100 people.

Let’s get the aqua classes restarted, the lanes buzzing with more than one person per lane (if they are in a ‘‘bubble’’) and the showers flowing. The increased revenue will surely benefit the people of Dunedin and lift the spirits of those hardy souls who would be in the lane rather than the line!

and thank you for publishing it (ODT, 11.10.21).

Why has the Dunedin City Council not done a community survey on the proposal like the Timaru District Council has done?

In Timaru when it was found that 96% of people were opposed to the reforms their council voted unanimously to opt out.

I predict that if this Government persists with this proposal in its present form (and there are ominous signs that it is a done deal!) all the goodwill that it has gained by protecting us from Covid19 will be lost.

There will be a fury of protest.

I FIND objectionable the comments by Nanaia Mahuta (ODT, 6.10.21) that one of the reasons many councils around New Zealand are not on board with passing over control and assets regarding the proposed Three Waters legislation is because they are Pakehadominated!

Is that a racist comment? What would happen if I was to say that certain political parties are dominated by a group of activists. Would that be a racist comment or hate speech.

With our freedoms being diminished day by day, seems only some have the ‘‘rights’’ we used to all enjoy.

IT’S ironic that the chairman of the

Wellington Jewish Council, David Zwartz, gave a talk on ‘‘kindness’’ in human societies in a ‘‘peace lecture’’ this week (ODT, 9.10.21). Over several decades Mr Zwartz has stoutly defended the policies and practices of Israel, which human rights groups have described as racist and say they amount to persecution of Palestinians.

In January this year, for example, Israeli human rights group B’Tselem issued a report describing Israel as ‘‘A regime of Jewish supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea: This is apartheid’’.

Mr Zwartz turns a blind eye to Israel’s racist policies and brutality against Palestinians.

Not much understanding of kindness there.
