Welcome to the ‘metaverse’, how can we help you?
THE ‘‘metaverse’’ is coming according to Trish Oakley (ODT, 25.10.21). She writes about a current generation that trusts technology to answer any question they have, wherever and whenever they ask it. Oh, that it was so!
After receiving three notifications from the Department of Internal Affairs stating that I needed to reverify my RealMe identity using the instructions provided on the internet by the New Zealand Government, I attempted to do what was asked of me. I had no real problem logging in to the website but the information which then appeared on my computer screen applied to my wife and not to me. So, of course, I tried to contact RealMe using the 0800 number provided in the messages I had received. That was interesting. I waited for exactly an hour listening to the frequent repetition of a message stating ‘‘all our agents are currently assisting other callers. Please continue to hold’’ before giving up in frustration and anger and hanging up.
Perhaps I could reply to one of the email messages I had received? No; they came from a government ‘‘noreply’’ address. So what do I do now? I’m waiting for Trish Oakley’s chief metaverse officer. I hope he or she is appointed soon. John Burton

Vaccine cards
WITH the new Covid19 traffic light system to be introduced, it raises the question as to what constitutes a vaccination certificate.
Having had the two doses at the Meridian Mall, I was given a Covid19 vaccine record card. The card is the size of a credit card and can be easily stored in a wallet. What is on the card is my name, the dates of the two vaccinations, the times and batch numbers of the doses given. The card has New Zealand Government written on it and has the Ministry of Health logo as well.
I would assume that this Covid19 vaccine record card would be standard issue for all those that have been vaccinated and should be a vaccination certificate in its own right without having to apply for an electronic one.
I wonder if the Government has thought of it. Ross Davidson
