Milford Track booked out

Milford: All 22,320 bunk nights have been filled up for the 186day season on the Milford Track.

All bookings had been taken by hikers in less than 14 minutes as the 30th Great Walk season officially opened yesterday.

New Zealand trampers were joined by those from overseas trying to secure bunks on New Zealand’s bestknown hike.

Milford broke records last year, being booked out in under 15 minutes for the first time. The added pressure from international bookings has only raised competition for the famous Fiordland hike.

The next group of walks opening for booking from 9.30am today are the Lake Waikaremoana, the Heaphy and the Routeburn tracks.
