A royal meeting

Auckland: GovernorGeneral Dame Cindy Kiro will likely meet the Queen and the Royal Family in person during the monarch’s platinum jubilee celebrations next month. Dame Cindy said she was planning to travel to England soon.

‘‘I’m looking forward to an audience with [the Queen] or certainly with senior members of the Royal Family and I expect to see quite a number of them at various events celebrating and acknowledging her service,’’ Dame Cindy said.

Dame Cindy, New Zealand’s first wahine Maori GovernorGeneral and of Ngapuhi, Ngati Kahu, Ngati Hine, Ngati Rahia and Ngati Mahia descent, said she was very proud of her British heritage.
