Another supermarket is not needed in Dunedin
DUNEDIN needs yet another supermarket (ODT, 5.5.22) like a hole in the head.
I’m speechless.
Would New World(Foodstuffs NZ) please explain its rationale for the decision to build yet another supermarket in South Dunedin.
I can only assume that they plan to entice customers to spend even more money on unnecessary rubbish, or they have prior information about a massive population explosion about to hit the city.
The huge increase in obesity in recent decades speaks to the ability of profitgreedy businesses to lure customers into purchasing endless quantities of rubbish which has little or no nutritional value.
Perhaps New World plans to share its profits with our health system which is so desperately short of funds to deal with the results of massive overconsumption of rubbish.
It’s time our society dropped such a profitatanycost mentality. Annette Carr
