Bike theft deterrent

-

Christchurch: Christchurch has followed Auckland and Wellington in adopting a community bike register and more than 1200 cyclists have joined in the three weeks since it began.

Users upload photos of their bike and its serial number to the worldwide 529 Garage register.

They then receive a tamperproof shield for their bike frame, indicating to potential thieves the bike is registered.

If a bike is marked as stolen, an alert is sent to all users in the area. — RNZ
