More steamer trips at Te Anau
The Otago Expansion League has been in communication with the Hon W. Nosworthy (Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts) for some time, in regard to tourist affairs generally at Te Anau, as they have been regarded as unsatisfactory.
A letter has been received in reply to the league’s representations, announcing that a new departure has been made in connection with the running of the steamer on Lake Te Anau.
Up to the present the steamer has been under the management of the Tourist Department, and has been utilised principally for Milford Track
passengers; now the vessel will be leased to Mr Govan, the energetic licensee of the Te Anau Hotel. The steamer will therefore be available for excursions on the lake, and an opportunity will be given for tourists to visit the strikingly beautiful and all but unknown fiords of this, the secondlargest lake in New Zealand, and, next to peerless Manapouri, the most beautiful. When all arrangements are completed the local branch of the Tourist Department and the Expansion League will give prospective visitors all particulars.
