Normanby bus stop could be made safer

- Don Nash

A WELCOME surprise from the Dunedin Tramways Union to boycott the Normanby bus stop for safety reasons. Having had two years of correspondence with the Dunedin City Council over this problem without success, a glimmer of hope now appears. For a long time the bus stop to town has been operating on the bend of North Rd, blocking the views of motorists and cyclists heading South, and partially blocking a resident’s driveway. Cyclists cannot stop as quickly as a motor car.

There was always an obvious and simple solution by moving the stop 20 metres southwards in front of the old shop.

This was the old trolley stop. Perfectly safe for everyone.

Recently, new bike lanes were painted which made it worse, Buses actually blocking the lane. Perhaps red cones could be placed in the new position until permanent changes are made.
