Southern Covid cases jump
MORE than 900 Covid19 cases were reported in the South yesterday, the secondhighest number of cases so far this month.
There were 920 new cases reported yesterday, the most since 947 cases were reported on May 3.
That represented a big jump from Tuesday’s 744 cases and added weight to warnings from the Southern District Health Board earlier this week that the pandemic was having a long tail in Otago and Southland.
The new southern cases were dominated by 421 in Dunedin, a figure which meant the city jumped back to having more than the 2000 active cases.
There were 162 new cases in Invercargill, 103 in Queenstown Lakes and 74 in Central Otago.
Nationally, a further 9392 cases were reported yesterday.
There were 22 southerners in hospital yesterday who had Covid19: 13 were in Dunedin, seven in Southland and two in Dunstan.
