Teams prepare to meet their matches

-

DUNEDIN Netball’s premier A competition is set to get a bit closer. The first two weeks of games in round one have resulted in some big margins but expect that to change this weekend. The grade is split into two pools, each with four teams. Tomorrow, the top two teams and the bottom two teams in each pool will play each other.

The games should be more evenly-matched than what we have seen so far and the leader board will start to take shape. Sitting at the top of pool A are Phys Ed B and Southern Magpies. Both teams have had convincing wins in the past two weeks, but Phys Ed has managed to score more points against its opponents.

Southern is the defending champion team so will be looking to continue its reign this year. The team managed to go unbeaten all season. The other teams in the pool are St Hilda’s and Taieri Netball Club. St Hilda’s is the only school team in the grade while Taieri is the newest addition, moving up after winning premier B last year.

They have had a tough start to the season with two losses each but should be more competitive against each other.

Leading pool B is Phys Ed A and College. College put on a dominant display against South Pac last week and will be keen to continue its form, while Phys Ed A had a convincing 60-goal win in week one. The other game is between Phys Ed C and South Pac. Both teams will be eager to get some points on the board and avoid promotionrelegation on May 24.

The bottom two teams in premier A will play the top two teams in premier B for a spot in the top grade. Before that, teams will play a crossover game against a team in the other pool next week.

Round two starts on May 28 and the season will break for Queen’s Birthday in early June.
