Hospital building a risk

Wellington: Hutt Hospital is to clear one of its main buildings containing critical services because it is an earthquake risk.

The Heretaunga Block contains the children’s ward, maternity wing, coronary care unit and other wards and services.

Hutt Valley District Health Board chief executive Fionnagh Doughan emailed staff, advising a seismic assessment had shown the building was earthquake prone ‘‘under the current law’’.
