Renewables can’t do it all, gas boss says
CANBERRA: The world needs all forms of energy to work together to reach netzero emissions, oil and gas executives have been told.
It took 150 years to build the current industrial economy and it must be reconstructed in three decades, gas executive Ian Davies said in his opening address yesterday at Australia’s largest fossil fuel industry event.
‘‘It’s a challenge we must meet without compromising energy security at home or in the region,’’ the head of leading east coast gas supplier Senex and chair of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association said.
‘‘There are sectors where renewables simply cannot replace oil and gas,’’ he told the APPEA 2022 conference in Brisbane.
The event is being held as leading companies face accusations of swindling taxpayers and contributing to catastrophic climate change.
