Electric car debt? Try reducing herd sizes

IT seems middle New Zealand is expected to get into debt buying electric vehicles.

Corporate dairy farmers get millions so they can look as if they are going to solve the huge problem they are creating.

They should be reducing the impact by reducing their herd size.

There are better ways of utilising our land and they should be encouraged to do so.

Why are the people who are degrading our land and waterways getting off so easily? Mary Robertson

Support for Palestine

THE emotionall­y packed call in today’s Otago Daily Times to people of Dunedin to continue their support for Ukraine (ODT, 16.5.22) makes compelling reading.

But what about another country, Palestine, which is occupied, with almost daily atrocities directed at its citizens, by an occupying country? Recently, a wellknown female journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, was murdered, allegedly by the occupying forces.

But a New Zealandwid­e ban by the authoritie­s on hoisting any Palestine flags in any public buildings to mourn her death, as well as that of many thousands of Palestinia­ns over the last 70 odd years, was sad.

Are Palestinia­ns less of humans than their fellow beings in Ukraine? Mathew Zacharias
