Judges reveal prizewinne­rs

THE winners of the 2022 New Zealand Mountain Film & Book Festival have been announced.

There were two categories for submission­s: mountain and adventure narrative and mountain and adventure heritage.

Judges Allan Uren, Sarah Bennett and Marjorie Cook chose from 46 entries.

The mountain and adventure narrative finalists were In Search of the Woman who Sailed the World, by Danielle Clode; Across the Pass: A Collection of NZ Tramping Writing, curated by Shaun Barnett; Solo: Backcountr­y Adventurin­g in Aotearoa New Zealand, by Hazel Phillips and The Mountain Path, by Paul Pritchard.

The winner, The Mountain Path, explores what happened after the author’s lifechangi­ng injury and his aspiration­s with climbing.

Khumbu: Gateway to Mount Everest Pathways to Kinship, by Peter Laurenson, won the mountain and adventure heritage award from the other finalist Fine Line, by Martin Hill and Philippa Jones.

The festival runs in Wanaka from June 24 to 29, before continuing in Queenstown from June 30 to July 2.
