Stakes high for final games of first round

-

TOMORROW’S Dunedin Netball games will be the final chance for teams to get extra points on the table before next week’s promotion-relegation games. Promotion-relegation will be played at the Edgar Centre on Tuesday night. The bottom two teams in premier A will play the top two teams in premier B for a spot in the top grade for round two. The two leading teams in premier C and senior 1 will also have the opportunity to play for a place in the grade above, while other teams may move down. Promotion-relegation will be automatic in all other grades. In premier A, Taieri Netball Club and South Pac are at the bottom of their pools as neither team has secured a win so far. They are both set to play in next week’s promotionrelegation games but will compete against each other tomorrow first to determine the end-of-round standings. The winning team will finish 7th in the grade and play the loser of the premier B game between College Red and Columba College Senior A on Tuesday. College and Columba sit at the top of their pools, having won all three games so far. The loser of Saturday's premier A game will finish 8th and play the winner of the premier B game, effectively getting a tougher path to keeping their place in the top grade. Tomorrow’s games are high stakes for all the teams involved. After playing three round-robin games, this week will be the first time the pools have crossed over. Phys Ed B will play College A at the start of the day, followed by Southern Magpies and Phys Ed A, and then St Hilda’s and Phys Ed C. Southern and Phys Ed A are leading their pools and are yet to lose a game. After two rounds of big wins, they had tougher outings last week against Phys Ed B and College, respectively. After this weekend, only one team will remain unbeaten. Round two starts on May 28, followed by a break for Queen’s Birthday at the first weekend of June. The round will resume on June 11.
