Bush makes Ukraine invasion gaffe
DALLAS: Former United States president George W. Bush (75) condemned the ‘‘brutal, unjustified invasion of Iraq’’. Except he meant the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The gaffe came as Bush was denouncing Vladimir Putin at an event on election integrity at the George W. Bush Presidential Centre in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday.
‘‘In contrast, Russian elections are rigged,’’ Bush said. ‘‘Political opponents are imprisoned or otherwise eliminated from participating in the political process. The result is the absence of checks and balances in Russia and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq.’’ Realising his mistake, Bush corrected himself, ‘‘I mean of Ukraine’’. — TCA
